Thymeleaf Saxifrage (Saxifraga serpyllifolia Pursh)

Also known as thyme-leaf saxifrage.

Some authorities consider goldbloom saxifrage (Saxifraga chrysantha) to be a variety or subspecies of this species, either var. chrysantha or ssp. chrysantha. We separate that as its own species, per the treatment of POWO, BONAP, and most other authorities.

This map is based on our research. We have checked its accuracy to Level 3 ecoregions. Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

Some sources show this species as occurring in Montana. We found one 2011 Montana record in MONTU attributed to this species, but upon examining the specimen, it appeared to be goldbloom saxifrage (Saxifraga chrysantha); it was probably labeled as this species due to use of a key that treated that taxon as Saxifraga serpyllifolia var. chrysantha, but only identified it to species level. All our research suggests, as BONAP reports, that this species does not occur in the lower 48 US.
