Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

This is a weedy plant that is rarely planted and tends to spread on its own; it favors disturbed habitats and has thus spread eastward in response to land clearing in more humid regions. In the newer eastern portions of its range, it becomes increasingly rare and sporadic to the south, but we marked the whole new range as expanded because it reflects organic expansion rather than isolated introduction to separated areas.
