Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This weedy plant readily colonizes disturbed habitats, which has led it to expand eastward slightly, nearly contiguously with its native range but separated by short distances.

The name "California plantain" is misleading as this species is neither native to, nor even found in California.
