Rio Grande Zinnia (Zinnia austrotexana B.L. Turner)

This species closely resembles desert zinnia (Zinnia acerosa), and some authors have contemplated considering it a variety of that species.

↑Habitat

Found in openings in thorn scrub, on gravely, saline, clay soils, on gentle slopes, mostly in areas along roadsides. This species is rare and has a very limited distribution, and has only been recorded in two counties of south Texas. One of the locations where it was formerly reported has been developed and that population may have been eliminated.
