Foster's Columbine (Aquilegia fosteri (S.L.Welsh) S.L.Welsh)

This species was originally described as a variety of western columbine (Aquilegia formosa), in 1986, as Aquilegia formosa var. fosteri S.L.Welsh; some authorities did not even recognize the variety, but in 2001 S.L. Welsh published new work proposing it be recognize as a separate species, and this new scheme is now accepted by POWO and BONAP, so we use it.
