This map is based on our research. We have checked its accuracy to Level 3 ecoregions. Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

POWO, FNA, and FSUS report this species as native to Louisiana and Texas, whereas BONAP reports it as introduced in Louisiana and not present in Texas. We have not yet been able to resolve this discrepancy; for now we report the view of the majority of these authorities.

Notes

This species was described in 1871 but we find little mention of it anywhere, even in synonymy, for reasons we do not understand. According to FNA it was formerly considered to belong to spotted spurge (Euphorbia maculata), but we found no listing of this species' name in the synonyms of that species on any website.
