This map is based on our research. We have checked its accuracy to Level 3 ecoregions. Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

This species has been widely planted in North America in gardens. It briefly established in the wild in the coastal plain of Texas, in Harris County (where Houston is located) but did not persist.

Uses

This plant is widely planted in gardens, where it is valued for its showy flowers, drought tolerance, and being easy to grow overall. In gardens, it spreads vegetatively, but it is not competitive in the wild; it has only been recorded in the wild on one site in Texas, where it did not persist long-term. Although this species likely has low potential to become invasive, we still recommend against planting it as it takes up space and resources that could instead be used to plant and thus preserve and protect native plant populations.
