Bashful Clubmoss (Diphasiastrum × verecundum A.V.Gilman)

Also known as bashful ground cedar; also classified as Diphasiastrum verecundum, Lycopodium verecundum, Lycopodium × verecundum.

POWO considers this an unplaced name. This is probably because POWO has moved the Diphasiastrum genus back into the Lycopodium genus, but the name Lycopodium verecundum or Lycopodium × verecundum has not been published. We list these (unpublished) theoretical names in our synonomy because they are implied by POWO's overall classification scheme, but to our knowledge they have never been used.

Notes

This species had no common name so we created a natural one from the scientific name. We chose the term "bashful" as a translation of the Latin epithet verecundum; the Diphasiastrum or Lycopodium genera are typically referred to as "clubmoss" or "ground cedar", so our proposed common names reflect the combination of these two terms.
