Expanded or Not Present

This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.

This species is sometimes planted in gardens, and can spread aggressively and sometimes escape into the wild, although it usually only survives in the wild in the far north of the US or into Canada. BONAP marks Minnesota and Wisconsin populations adventive, probably from garden escapes. We consider them expanded because they are separated from the native range by smaller distances than naturally existed within that range.
