This species also occurs in Canada but we have not yet built this portion of its map. Although the range of this species is largely agreed-upon, and it is agreed-upon to be native to the US, there is some disagreement about which populations are native. POWO shows many of the populations at the north and northwestern borders of its range to be introduced, which BONAP does not. Go Botany shows a new, introduced population in Maine which BONAP does not. We have marked the Maine and New Mexico populations as introduced because they are separated from the native range by a small distance, but also, this species becomes progressively uncommon around the borders of its range and does not show any evidence of expanding around these edges, and also, the gaps between the introduced populations and its native range are much larger than the gaps between the native populations. We may adjust our maps if we see new evidence; there is some subjectivity in our judgment call, particularly with the Maine population which is not separated by as major a geographic divide as the New Mexico population.
