This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.

Although some sources and the common name suggest this species is native to Asia, POWO considers it native to South America, and fitting with this analysis, BONAP marks it Adventive in the US. We mark it Expanded because its range in Mexico and North America is connected the whole way to the native range with only small gaps no bigger than exist in its native range. It has taken advantage of increased open and disturbed habitats associated with human habitation. We have yet to build the portion of its map in Mexico.

Notes

The common names of this species are misleading and based on the older information where this species was thought to be native to India; we have not, however, found a better common name as all the other common names reported for this species are more frequently used to refer to other species. This species however would benefit from a new, more descriptive common name.
