This map is based on our research. We have checked its accuracy to Level 3 ecoregions. Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This species is uncommonly cultivated as an ornamental plant. It can escape cultivation, but it tends to be rare in most of the range where it has established. FSUS shows this species established considerably farther southwest (to SC coastal plain, NC Piedmont, and VA/PA Mountains) than BONAP does (to DE/NJ/southeastern NY State only.) Our map reflects the broader reports. We suspect this species may be underreported because there are so many Persicaria species; although this one is relatively straightforward to identify, people do not necessarily know to check against it.
