Stout Smartweed (Persicaria robustior (Small) E.P.Bicknell)

Also classified as Polygonum robustius (Small) Fernald.

Some authorities, such as the Atlas of Florida Plants, merge this species in with dotted smartweed (Persicaria punctata). Most authorities separate them so we treat them as separate.

This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.

Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

This species is also native to Canada; we have yet to build its map. BONAP and FSUS both show a record in TX, but without showing a specific location. FSUS marks it as "possibly introduced" here. FSUS notes "Probably under-represented as to states of occurrence because of frequent synonymization" which refers to the tendency of some regional authorities to lump this into other species.
