We chose to mark this introduced and not expanded in the new parts of its range because the isolations are introduced, separated from the native range, and we see no evidence that this plant is expanding near the borders of its range. We may update this map if we see evidence to the contrary.

Closely related to Japanese Pachysandra (Pachysandra terminalis), which is widely planted as a landscaping plant.

The "spurge" common name is misleading; this plant is not closely related to most other plants of this name, which are in the Euphorbiaceae family. The next-most-closely related plants in north America are boxwoods (Buxus sp.) all of which are all introduced in North America, although there are two native Buxus species in Puerto Rico.
