The common grass of sand dunes, both along the Atlantic coast of the northeastern US and the Great lakes. Introduced to the Pacific northwest, where it is invasive.

↑Habitat
Found on sand dunes in exposed conditions, especially areas exposed to wind and shifting sand. Tolerant of salt spray and burial in extensive sand.
Typically found as the first vegetation facing the water, and often the only vegetation where it is growing.
