Clasping Milkweed (Asclepias amplexicaulis Sm.)

A milkweed species found across eastern North America, common in a few different regions but scattered and less common throughout most of its range. Named for the fact that the leaves usually clasp the stem at the base, a characteristic uncommon among the Asclepias genus.

According to the CT botanical society (source), dry fields and open woods, usually in sandy soils.
