This is a small weedy plant that is spreading without being planted by humans, but it probably benefits from humans clearing land and building roads and railroads, as it prefers dry, open areas with sandy and/or rocky soil. Although some of the new portions of this plant's range are locally isolated by small distances, we marked the entire new range as expanded due to its method of spread. It also is likely under-reported and the gaps in its new range may already be more filled-in than county-level maps suggest.
