Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This plant is occasionally cultivated in gardens, and can escape cultivation. In addition, eastward expansion of both its parent species has enabled it to originate as a spontaneous hybrid in a broader range than before. Different sources disagree as to where exactly this species is native vs. introduced or expanded; we have used BONAP's cutoff rather than the broader native ranges listed in POWO or the USDA PLANTS database. We mark the entire new range as expanded because it is largely connected to its native range, excepting only small gaps that are not appreciably larger than gaps in its native range.
