Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

Habitat

An obligate wetland species. Found in standing to slow-moving water, and soils rich in organic matter and silt, and full sun. Occurs on shores and banks of lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams, margins of marshes and bogs margins, wet fields, and ditches.

Faunal Associations

The seeds are eaten both by waterfowl and upland birds.

Uses

Infrequently cultivated as a landscaping plant for ponds.
