Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This species is occasionally used as an ornamental grass, as well as in prairie and meadow plantings. It spreads readily by seed, and can survive along roadsides; escapes have led it to establish east and north of its native range. We mark new populations expanded because they are mostly close to the native range.
