Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

Different sources disagree about exactly where this species is native but it is generally agreed to be native to the southern US and having expanded northeastward. Our map is based on a cutoff assuming it is native to Maryland but not Pennsylvania, reflecting the stances of MBP, Plant of Pennsylvania, and Go Botany marking this plant as native nowhere in New England. This species is also native to Mexico, but we have yet to build this portion of its map.
