Dotted Duckmeat (Landoltia punctata (G. Mey.) D.H. Les & D.J. Crawford)

Also classified as Spirodela punctata (G.Mey.) C.H.Thomps.

POWO classifies this plant in the Spirodela genus but we follow the conventions of BONAP and FSUS, reflecting the work of Les & Crawford (1999) which argued that this plant is more closely related to Lemna (duckweeds) than other Spirodela; this new scheme has been reinforced by later genetic studies.

This map is based on our research. We have checked its accuracy to Level 3 ecoregions. Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

This species is native to South America and has been introduced at many locations worldwide. POWO shows a much more limited range distribution both in North America and worldwide and we have not yet figure out why. Our map reflects information shown in most other sources including BONAP, FSUS, and many regional sources. We did not however find any records of this plant in Canada or Mexico.
