Purple Bluestem (Andropogon cretaceus Weakley & Schori)

Also classified as Andropogon glaucopsis (Elliott ex Steud.) Nash, Andropogon glaucopsis Elliott*.

USDA and BONAP call this species Andropogon glaucopsis Elliott, a name which POWO does not list at all. They list as a synonym Andropogon glaucopsis (Elliott ex Steud.) Nash. Some sources do not recognize this taxon as a species at all, instead treating it as a variety of bushy bluestem (Andropogon glomeratus). At any rate we did not see any differences in the taxa referred to by these names.
