Swamp Azalea (Rhododendron viscosum (L.) Torr.)
Also known as Texas azalea; also classified as Rhododendron oblongifolium (Small) Millais.
Although the USDA and some other authorities consider the Texas azalea, Rhododendron oblongifolium (Small) Millais, to be a separate species, we have merged it into this species in keeping with the treatment of BONAP, POWO, and many others. Some authors treat it as a subspecies but we do not, as neither BONAP nor POWO recognize it as such.

This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
