Notes

There is significant disagreement about how to classify this taxon. The USDA reports this species as a hybrid of V. lanceolata × V. macloskeyi but we could not find justification for this classification so have treated it as its own species.

Some authorities report this species as also occurring in California and Oregon. We treat these populations as instead part of bog white violet (Viola lanceolata), ssp. occidentalis.
