This map is based on our research. We have checked its accuracy to Level 3 ecoregions. Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

This species is widely planted in gardens but only occasionally escapes into the wild. Although Calflora lists numerous records, mostly around San Francisco, BONAP shows this species as a waif in California, not persisting in the wild. The westernmost record on Vancouver Island is near a garden and may not be established in the wild either. POWO, BONAP, and Canadensys all reference this species being introduced in Ontario, but we have been unable to locate a specific record. It is likely found somewhere in southern Ontario as that region is the most populous and this species usually establishes as a garden escape.
