Low Spikesedge (Cyperus hortensis (Salzm. ex Steud.) Dorr)
Also classified as Kyllinga pumila Michx., Cyperus tenuifolius (Steud.) Dandy (Misapplied).
Numerous older sources refer to this taxon as Cyperus tenuifolius (Steud.) Dandy but that name, although a valid name, is misapplied to this taxon. That taxon as recognized by POWO and most other contemporary authorities, applies to a species native to Africa through South Asia, that is not known to occur anywhere in North America. Some authorities separate out a subset of Cyperus species into the Kyllinga genus (spikesedges); we currently follow the convention followed by POWO and FSUS of grouping them in with Cyperus which is necessary to prevent there being a paraphyletic genus.

This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
