This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.

Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

We found conflicting information about whether this species is native anywhere in North America. Some sources including POWO report it as native to much of the US and Canada, but BONAP reports it as Adventive. Numerous sources report it is native only to Europe and introduced in North America. Flora of BC reports it having two subspecies one of which is native and the other introduced from Europe, but POWO does not recognize any subspecies. We have not yet resolved these discrepancies, but we note it is generally agreed-upon that this species is native to Europe and many or most North American populations may be introductions. For now we treat all populations in the US as introduced; we have yet to build the portion of the map in Canada or Alaska.
