This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This species is widely planted and sometimes escapes into the wild. VASCAN reports this species as "Ephemeral" in Ontario, means it sometimes escapes but does not persist. We have yet to build the portion of its map in Canada.
↑Notes
Although the name "salvia romana" sounds like a scientific name, it is a common name and has never been used as a scientific name. As such, it is confusing and we recommend avoiding it. We also recommend avoiding the non-standard name "Europe sage" which the USDA PLANTS database uses, but which is not commonly in use. "Clary" or "Clary Sage" are the most commonly used terms; we like including the term "sage" because it communicates the genus (Salvia) this plant in, as plants of this genus are usually called "sage".
