Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

This weedy plant is a prolific seeder and thrives in disturbed wet areas in gardens, along roadsides, in cropland, and even in lawns. Humans have facilitated its spread through creation of new habitat, and spreading of soil and plants. As a result it has expanded both northeast and west of its native range; we mark these populations expanded because they are adjacent to its range, but we mark the California population an introduction because it is isolated.
