Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

This is a weedy plant with wind-dispersed seeds, able to grow in disturbed habitats including lawns, roadsides, and waste areas. It has expanded north and east of its native range; our map is based on BONAP, but this species may have a broader expanded range than reported here. In the east, wool-combing mills have played a role in its spread.
