Native or Expanded or Not Present

This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.

This species is widely cultivated in gardens, and frequently escapes. As a result, it has established in numerous areas; we mark the new range as expanded because the new populations are largely contiguous with the native range. There may be some problem with this map. BONAP's map for this species shows an unnatural distribution, with more reports in Indiana and Alabama than neighboring states, suggesting inconsistency in reporting on a state level, which might reflect differences in classification schemes that alternatively group this species in with Yucca filamentosa, or perhaps some other issue. We have not yet resolved these discrepancies, so this map is best treated as tentative.
