White Panicled Aster vs Calico Aster
This guide is under construction and has not been published yet. It may have errors. When in doubt, double-check other sources for definitive ID.These two species are sometimes confused; both can be found on shady sites and they can sometimes grow relatively near each other. They are easily told apart by size, both of the whole plants, leaves, and flowerheads. S. lanceolatum ranges much farther west, and is more restricted to moist sites such as streambanks. S. lateriflorum is relatively more common in the south of its range, and ranges onto slightly drier, better-drained sites, such as on sloped terrain.
