Photo of Wingstem (Verbesina alternifolia)
Taken on Jun. 11, 2018
A recently-sprouted young plant still showing opposite arrangement of leaves. This symmetry usually disappears as the plant matures, with the plant later showing an alternate arrangement of leaves on the stem.
I established this population of plants along the James F. Hall Trail from seeds gathered from White Clay Creek state park.
In the lower-left is an Acalypha rhomboidea plant.
