Black Cherry (Prunus serotina) Seedlings
Photo of Black Cherry (Prunus serotina)
Taken on Apr. 22, 2019
Pictured here are numerous seedlings of black cherry (Prunus serotina) growing in a shady spot. Black cherry is a species that needs significant sunlight in order to establish, but its seedlings survive for up to 4 years in low-light condition. These seedlings are mostly 2 or more years old, and are not growing in enough light for them to survive long-term. They will either die, or if released through the creation of a gap, perhaps grow into adult trees.
