Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This grass thrives along roads and railroads, as well as in abandoned fields and overgrazed pastures. As such it has expanded on its own north of its range, particularly in Michigan, New York State, and New England.
