Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

Although showy, this species is not frequently cultivated in gardens. It thrives in disturbed anthropogenic habitats, including roadsides, railroads, and waste areas, but it is mostly limited to sites with sandy soils. We mark the entire new range as expanded even though eastern populations are spotty and locally isolated, because it is mostly spreading on its own.
