Shrubby Cinquefoil (Dasiphora fruticosa (L.) Rydb.)

Also classified as Potentilla fruticosa L.

This species is recognized by POWO as having two separate varieties: var. fruticosa makes up an overwhelming majority of the populations, and is native to North America into Eurasia. The other variety, var. veitchii, is restricted to Yunnan and Sichuan province in China and does not occur in North America. Some sources refer to var. fruticosa as Dasiphora fruticosa subsp. floribunda (Pursh) Kartesz. Because var. veitchii does not occur in North America, for our purposes the full species and main sub-taxon can be used interchangeably, but globally, they are not interchangeable.
