Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

Notes

Normally we would prefer the common name "sand sedge" over the widely used "Muhlenberg's sedge" because we favor descriptive names over honorific ones, and "sand sedge" accurately communicates this species' preference for sandy soils. However, the common name "sand sedge" is unfortunately already more widely-used to refer to two different species: sand sedge (Carex arenaria) and sand sedge (Carex perdentata). For this reason we favor the less-ambiguous "Muhlenberg's sedge".
