This species is occasionally cultivated, and can spread into the wild with its bird-distributed fruit, which has led to it establishing slightly east of its native range. It can survive in anthropogenic habitats including powerline clearances, abandoned fields, and fencerows. We marked it expanded because the introductions fits the pattern of scattered populations throughout the easternmost portion of this species native range, and the new populations are not appreciably more isolated than these existing populations.
