This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.

Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

Habitat

Common evening primrose is found in a wide variety of sunny, disturbed habitats. Natural habitats include prairies, shores of lakes and rivers, and clearings around rock outcroppings. It is common in anthropogenic habitats including roadsides, railroads, pastures, abandoned cropland, vacant lots, and waste ground.

It inhabits a wide range of moisture conditions, from moist to dry, but is more likely on well-drained sites, only occasionally occurring in wetlands.
