This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

↑Life Cycle
Early goldenrod is a rhizomatous perennial that reproduces both asexually and by seed.
First-year plants do not always send up a flowering stem. Plants initially grow only a clump of basal leaves, many of which are evergreen in mild climates and winters.
Established plants send up a stem in spring which will eventually bloom. Seeds are distributed by wind.
On favorable sites, plants will also reproduce vegetatively, sending out rhizomes. However, plants tend to spread less by rhizomes than some other Solidago species that overlap in range, such as altissima, canadensis, gigantea, or rugosa. By contrast, this species tends to be less likely to send out any rhizomes, and tends to form fewer flowering stems per colony when it does.
