This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
This species, native to the south-central and southeastern US, has been widely planted in landscaping, and escaped at numerous sites, establishing wild populations, where it benefits from its ability to survive along roadsides and in waste areas. It is uncommon to rare in most of this new range. We have marked most of this new range Expanded because it is largely contiguous with the native range and separated by only small gaps, except Western populations which are separated by large distances, which we marked Introduced.
