Notes

Although some sources list "Laurel Oak" as a common name for this species, we recommend avoiding the use of this name to refer to this species because that name more frequently refers to laurel oak (Quercus laurifolia). We prefer the name "sand laurel oak" because it is more descriptive of the sandy habitats preferred by this species, as well as its visual similarity to Q. laurifolia.
