The populations now considered to be this species were formerly considered to be three separate species of the yellow pond-lily (Nuphar lutea). We recommend against using the common name "yellow pond-lily" because it most frequently refers to that species. The names "spatterdock", "broadleaf pond-lily", and "cow lily" are more often used to refer to this species, so we prefer them.
