This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
↑Notes
This is sometimes treated as a subspecies or variety of fragrant sumac (Rhus aromatica). BONAP considers most of what is usually referred to as Rhus trilobata as part of Rhus aromatica var. trilobata (Nutt.) Gray ex. S. Watts. However, they exclude Rhus trilobata var. arenaria which they treat as Rhus aromatica var. arenaria (Greene) Fern., and Rhus trilobata var. serotina which they consider as Rhus aromatica var. serotina (Greene) Rehd. As these varieties are not included in the USDA's map for this species, the BONAP map for the variety more-or-less agrees with the USDA map for the species.
