The exact native range of this species is not known. It expanded into North America beginning as early as the 1700's, but probably due to the influence of European colonization. It is generally agreed to be native to Mexico and some sources say it is native to Texas whereas others disagree; we have yet to build its range map in Mexico, but it is thought to be widely native throughout Mexico.
