Southern Dwarf Huckleberry (Gaylussacia dumosa (Andrews) Torr. & A. Gray)

Northern dwarf huckleberry (Gaylussacia bigeloviana) was split off from this species and some authorities still lump that in with this species. Some sources referred to that taxon as Gaylussacia dumosa var. bigeloviana Fernald, but USDA PLANTS does not even recognize any subtaxa. The common name "dwarf huckleberry" without any further descriptor refers to both taxa lumped into one, so we always recommend using the descriptors "northern/southern" for specificity when referring to the split taxa.
