BONAP lists this species as equivalent to Cornus alba var. alba, which is a non-standard practice that we were unable to find any documentation explaining. We also failed to find any other sources that made this identification. As such, we link to BONAP's map of this name, but do not list this name as an accepted synonym.
Most authorities consider Cornus alba L. a species limited to eastern Europe, east through Siberia to east Asia, and only occurring in North America as an introduction in Illinois.
